Before you start

  • Your TV is on and showing a picture — not in standby.
  • Your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network — the same network name, not a guest network.
  • You can see the TV screen — you may need to approve the connection there.

Pair your TV

Turn on your TV

Use your remote, or press the button underneath the LG logo on the front of the TV. Wait for the home screen. A TV in standby won't appear in iMote.

Turn on LG Connect Apps

This is the setting that lets phone apps talk to your TV. It's on by default, but it's the first thing to check if pairing fails later.

On your TV, go to Settings › General › Network › LG Connect Apps and make sure it's on. On older webOS versions it sits directly under Settings › Network.

Check you're on the same network

Still in the network menu, open Wi-Fi Connection to see which network your TV is using, then put your phone on that same one.

If your router advertises two names — something like MyWiFi and MyWiFi-5G — pick the one the TV is on. Older LG sets join only the 2.4 GHz band.

Find your TV in iMote

Open iMote and tap Add device. Your TV appears by model or by the name you gave it, for example "[LG] webOS TV" or "LG C4". Tap it.

Accept the request on your TV

A message appears on the TV asking whether to allow the connection. Select Accept with your remote, or with the button on the TV.

Unlike some brands, LG doesn't show a numeric code — it's a straight yes-or-no prompt.

That's it — you're connected. The remote opens automatically. Try the volume buttons to confirm it's controlling the right TV. iMote remembers this TV and reconnects on its own next time.

No remote? Use the button on the TV

Most LG TVs have a single button, and on many models it doubles as a small joystick.

Where the button is
  • Most models — directly underneath the LG logo on the bottom centre of the front bezel. Reach under the frame and feel for a small nub.
  • Some larger and older sets — on the back panel, lower right.
  • Some stand-mounted models — on the underside of the stand column itself.
How to accept the prompt with it

Press the button once to bring up the on-screen menu.

Move the joystick left or right, or press repeatedly, to move the highlight.

Press down to select.

Nudge the highlight onto Accept and press to confirm. If your model has a plain button rather than a joystick, a single press moves the highlight and a press-and-hold selects.

If something isn't working

My TV isn't in the list

Check LG Connect Apps is on at Settings › General › Network › LG Connect Apps. If this is off, your TV is invisible to iMote and there's no error message to tell you so.

Check the network name at Settings › General › Network › Wi-Fi Connection and match your phone to it exactly.

Check it's not a guest network. Guest networks stop devices from seeing each other. Move your phone to the main network.

Turn off any VPN on your phone. A VPN routes your phone off the local network, so it can't see your TV.

Pull down to refresh the device list in iMote and give it ten seconds.

Restart the device properly. Unplug it at the wall, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. This clears more than the power button does.

If your TV or streaming box is plugged in with an Ethernet cable, that's fine — wired and wireless work together, as long as both are on the same router.

The prompt appeared, but I accidentally declined

Once you decline, the TV remembers. Remove iMote's access and start again:

On the TV, turn LG Connect Apps off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. This clears the stored decisions.

In iMote, remove the TV from your devices, then add it again.

It connected before, but now it won't

LG stores the pairing against your TV's IP address, so it breaks when your router hands out a new one — typically after a power cut or a router change.

Remove the TV in iMote and add it again from scratch. You'll get the Accept prompt one more time, then it'll stay stable.

The remote works, but the TV won't turn on from my phone

Waking over Wi-Fi is a separate setting on LG, and the menu moved on recent models.

  • 2017 to 2024 models — turn on Settings › General › Mobile TV On › Turn On Via Wi-Fi.
  • 2025 models and newer — turn on Settings › Support › IP Control Settings › Wake on LAN.

If neither menu exists on your set, the model doesn't support it. Power the TV on with its own remote or button, then use iMote for everything else.

Still stuck?

Tell us your model number — you'll usually find it on a sticker on the back of the TV or streaming device — and we'll take a look.
